Technical library

Technical library:
papers and articles by Blasch engineers

White papers, trade journal articles and recorded presentations on reformers, sulfur plants, ferrules, wear and molten metal.

Most of these papers began with a part that failed in a real plant.
Each page summarizes one of them, the full text is available on request.

In short

The Blasch technical library collects the white papers, trade journal articles and recorded presentations in which Blasch engineers and partners explain the technology: precast flue gas tunnels for steam methane reformers, checkerwalls for Claus and acid furnaces, ferrules for waste heat boilers, erosion resistant ceramics and linings for molten metal. Each page below summarizes one document, names where it was published and links to the product it concerns.

Read the method

A data sheet tells you what a part is made of, while a paper shows how the engineers found out why the old part failed, and that is the part you can check against your own plant.

Reformers and flue gas tunnels

Papers on why brick tunnels in top-fired reformers fail, how tunnel design changes flue gas flow, and what changed in plants that replaced them.

Sulfur recovery, sulfuric acid and incinerators

Field reports and design papers on checkerwalls, residence time and temperature in Claus furnaces, acid plant furnaces and thermal incinerators.

Ferrules and heat exchangers

Papers on protecting tubesheets and tube inlets where hot gas enters a boiler or heat exchanger.

Erosion and wear

Articles on erosion in pipes, nozzles and equipment that moves ash, catalyst, cement and other abrasive solids.

Refractory design, installation and supply

Papers on how refractory parts are designed, who installs them and how they reach the plant.

Molten metals

Papers on induction furnace linings, core setters for investment casting and aluminum degassing.

Beyond the papers

Installation films, tests and webinars are collected on the videos page, and results from operating plants on the case studies page.

Frequently asked

Questions about the library

Can I download the full papers?

Each page summarizes the document. The full text is available on request through the contact form, until downloads are set up.

Who wrote the papers?

Blasch engineers and market managers, partly with partners such as BD Energy Systems and DuPont MECS. Each page names the authors where the document does so.

Are the results from real plants?

Some are field data from operating plants, others are finite element or CFD models. Each summary says which kind of result it reports.

Are plant operators named?

No. The summaries describe plants by industry and region. Names stay in the original documents where the publisher printed them.

Precast tunnel wall being built block by block in a furnace

A question the papers
do not answer?

Describe the part, where it sits and how it fails. A Blasch engineer sends the relevant paper or looks at your case directly.
