Ceramic reactor vessel linings,
bubble caps and tuyeres

Precast sleeves, linings and gas distribution parts for hot, abrasive and corrosive process reactors.

Linings and gas distribution parts for reactors that run hot and abrasive.
Precast to the vessel, with fewer joints than tiles.

Reactor vessel lining components and bubble caps
In short

Reactor vessels with hot, abrasive or corrosive flow are best protected by precast ceramic sleeves, linings and gas distribution parts cast for that vessel, instead of metallic components or dense tiled linings with many joints. Blasch makes reactor sleeves and linings, bubble caps and tuyeres in several silicon carbide grades, alumina, mullite and cordierite, and its bubble cap design is covered by US Patent 6,868,795. The parts are used in fluidized bed reactors, titanium dioxide chlorination and other high temperature process vessels.

What attacks a reactor lining

A process reactor combines three loads that rarely come alone: temperature, the abrasion of solids moving through the vessel, and the chemistry of the process gas. Each one on its own has a standard answer. All three together shorten the life of most linings.

Metal parts lose strength and scale at temperature. Dense tile linings handle heat and wear, but every joint between tiles is a place where gas, solids and thermal movement get a start.

In carbon black reactors the quench section adds severe thermal shock, which cracks linings that were not designed for it. Precast parts can be made for exactly that combination of abrasion and thermal shock.

Why outage cycles stretch

When the lining is no longer the part that fails first, the reactor runs until the process needs the outage, not until the refractory does.

Reactor parts we cast

Each part is designed for one vessel, from its dimensions and operating conditions. Drawings help, but dimensions are enough.

Reactor sleeves and linings

Precast linings and sleeves for the hot, wearing zones of the vessel, with fewer joints than a tiled wall.

Bubble caps

Patented caps for fluidized bed distributors that spread the gas and keep bed material out of the plenum.

Tuyeres

Ceramic gas inlets for the distributor plate, in grades chosen for the bed temperature and the solids.

Materials and designs

The grades include alumina, mullite, cordierite and alumina bonded, reaction bonded, nitride bonded and oxide bonded silicon carbide. Mullite and cordierite suit temperature swings, silicon carbide suits abrasion at temperature. Mullite ceramics

Bubble caps and tuyeres for boilers with circulating or bubbling fluidized beds are on their own page, CFB and BFB nozzles and bubble caps. This page covers the process reactor side.

In titanium dioxide plants, Blasch supplies reactor linings and chlorinator parts alongside micronizer liners and valves. Heavy industrial processing

Large wear shapes for pressure vessels in hydrometallurgy are on impingement block linings, the micronizers of the TiO2 finishing step on micronizer liners, and the full range on wear products.

Frequently asked

Questions about reactor vessel linings

What is the difference between a bubble cap and a tuyere?

Both bring gas into a fluidized bed through the distributor plate. A bubble cap covers the gas inlet with a cap and side openings, a tuyere is a nozzle that injects the gas directly.

Can precast linings shorten an outage?

Yes. The parts arrive fired and are set in place, so no time goes into forming, curing and drying a monolithic lining.

Is the Blasch bubble cap patented?

Yes. The design is covered by US Patent 6,868,795.

Which part of your reactor
sets the next outage?

Send the vessel size, the process conditions and where the lining fails. A Blasch engineer proposes the parts and the grade.
