Ceramic argon rings
for an even argon blanket over the melt

A ceramic gas ring for roll-over furnaces in investment casting, designed with CFD for even gas dispersion.

Argon only protects the melt where it actually arrives.

In short

An argon ring is a ceramic ring that delivers argon over the surface of the melt and spreads it into an even blanket, so less oxygen reaches the metal and fewer oxides form. Under vacuum, the chamber keeps oxygen away. In furnaces that melt and pour without a vacuum chamber, such as the roll-over furnaces used in investment casting, the argon ring does that job at the melt surface.

Why the ring is ceramic

The ring sits close to the melt and the pour. It sees radiant heat at every heat, metal splash during roll-over, and a temperature swing each time the furnace is charged and emptied.

A metal ring would distort or react under these conditions. The Blasch argon ring is cast from a ceramic chosen for thermal shock resistance and for contact with molten metal, and strong enough for daily handling in the melt shop.

Where the gas goes

An argon blanket protects only the part of the melt it covers, so the way the ring spreads the gas matters more than how much gas you buy.

Designed with feedback and flow modeling

The argon ring was developed with input from investment casters and tested with computational fluid dynamics, with even gas dispersion over the melt surface as the design goal.

Several standard sizes are available. Custom sizes are made to fit the crucible and coil of your furnace.

The ring works with the crucible underneath it. ProCaster high alumina crucibles and single use one-shot crucibles are made for the same furnaces.

Frequently asked

Questions about argon rings

What does an argon ring do?

It feeds argon over the melt surface and spreads it into a blanket that reduces oxide formation in the melt.

Which furnaces use argon rings?

Roll-over induction furnaces in investment casting, where the melt is protected by argon instead of a vacuum chamber.

Can the ring be made for a non-standard furnace?

Yes. Besides the standard sizes, Blasch makes argon rings to the dimensions of your crucible and furnace.

Send the crucible size and the furnace setup. A Blasch engineer checks the ring size and the gas dispersion.
